Statistical information about vaccine preventable diseases is collated by the following organisations:

Department of Health and Ageing

Communicable Diseases Australia (Department of Health and Ageing) provides surveillance of notifiable communicable diseases. Data can be accessed via the National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System (NNDSS) or you can refer to Immunise Australia Program disease notifications for historical trends in vaccine-preventable diseases funded under the Program.

More information about monitoring notifiable diseases can be found at Surveillance systems for communicable diseases in Australia.

Medicare Australia

Health care providers and researchers can access communicable disease data relating to the programs Medicare Australia administers. See Medicare Australia statistical reporting for more information, including a fact sheet on how to access the statistics.

National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS)

NCIRS conducts research and provides independent expert advice about all aspects of diseases which can be prevented by vaccination, particularly in children, including a national perspective on social and other issues related to immunisation.

See NCIRS Fact Sheets for information about vaccine preventable diseases and vaccine safety, NCIRS Surveillance Reports for vaccine coverage statistics, and Publications for a list of journal articles.
